Remembering November 9

Our country has just commemorated the 10th anniversary of 9 / 11 attacks. It is a day that is forever etched in our collective consciousness. Who does not remember where and what they were doing when they heard the shocking news and I saw the pictures painful and horrible?
There are a variety of bars, monuments, flags, news clips, speeches, prayers, rants and explosions around that fateful day had been. There are stories and video clips that pain and suffering, and the other with respect and gratitude to the heroes, stories of survivors of some others, as well as stories of family and friends that a loved one our save what was lost in the nation worst tragedies.
What I like to see in the next 10 years, other stories of healing and humanity. Although I think we need measures to ensure the security of our country, I fear that the crucial step in recognizing the importance of our unity as a people to be encouraged.
So often, how they differ from each other, creating an artificial barrier to concentrate. We all want to be proud of our uniqueness, but if we use this as a measure of how they are somehow "better" than anyone else, it creates problems. If something or someone is perceived as being different, much easier to use hate as a reason for this difference.
Sometimes I hate that turns violent.
Shortly after 11:08, in 2001 a man was killed by a Sikh turban. The shooter, Rogue Frank believes that his aim was an Arab. The victim, Balbir Singh Sodhi, a gas station owner, who emigrated from India. Ironically, the Sikhs, nature, peace loving and beliefs known. What makes this even worse, at least for me, this act of violence in my city of Mesa, AZ.
As a Buddhist I believe in the connection of humanity. People are a microcosm of all humanity and the larger system, the universe. What can we do for others we do to ourselves. Therefore, our actions of healing, compassion and understanding of many of our acts of anger and hatred are necessary. While power may have a temporary effect, in order to reduce damage in the bay, which does little to solve the inherent problem.
Since most of us with the things that lead us to identify the other, it is difficult to imagine how we are connected inside. An example that demonstrates our commitment to pollution. If a nuclear accident, the rain is not, that contain a certain area. The radiation penetrates the soil and groundwater traveling through our rivers, streams and the sea and travel hundreds and thousands of miles from their winds.
