Lung Cancer Patients Diabetes Her life is taxable Longer

Lung cancer patients who have diabetes tend to live longer than those without diabetes. Nevertheless, diabetes should not be regarded as a reason to withhold standard therapy of lung cancer.
Researchers from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology and Trondheim University writes that the lung cancer patients often have other diseases, one of which is diabetic.
But the evidence on the impact of diabetes on the survival of lung cancer is quite contradictory, so megusik curiosity of researchers to conduct this study.
Researchers compared the life expectancy of 1677 patients of lung cancer cases and found 77 of them who also had been diagnosed with diabetes mellitus. The results showed that:
1. 1-year survival rates in lung cancer patients who also suffer from diabetes was 43%, compared with 28% in those without diabetes.
2. 2-year survival rates in lung cancer patients with diabetes 19% and 11% in those without diabetes.
3. 3-year survival rates in lung cancer patients with diabetes and without diabetes 3% 1%.
4. When other variables such as gender, age, disease stage, and the adjusted hazard ratio, survival of patients with lung cancer and diabetes mellitus was 0.55 and showed that lung cancer patients without diabetes is almost twice as many died compared with lung cancer patients with diabetes.
As reported by Medical News Today, Tuesday (18/10/2011), the researchers later concluded that lung cancer patients with diabetes mellitus have a higher survival compared to those without diabetes mellitus. Not only that, the researchers also found that patients with diabetes have high levels of cancer or metastatic spread of tumors is lower.
At first they thought maybe this could explain why patients with diabetes may survive longer, because most lung cancer patients do not die from the primary tumor but secondary tumors.
But when investigated further, it was not that simple, because all these lung cancer patients with diabetes mellitus are also suffering from lung cancer advanced stages. This is why researchers suggest the need for more research to do.
